I have some pink Socatta yarn that I never used, but I'm not so sure the pattern in the yarn will compliment the sock pattern. That might be worth checking out though. I know what you mean about MagKnits though; they are pretty much hit or miss. I'm pretty partial to the Burridge Lake Afghan from the same issue. That's an awesome pattern too.
